Common questions
How do I add a WhatsApp button to my website?
Enter your number and style the button in the generator, copy the code, and paste it before the closing </body> tag of your site or into your site builder’s custom-code area.
Is the WhatsApp chat widget generator free?
Yes. The generator and the code it produces are free, with no sign-up.
Do I need a WhatsApp Business account?
No. The button opens a chat with the number you enter, so any WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business number with an active account works.
Can I change the message visitors send?
Yes. Edit the pre-filled message in the generator and copy the code again. Use {{page_title}} and {{page_url}} to add the page the visitor is on.
Does the button work on mobile?
Yes. According to the WhatsApp Help Center, click to chat works on both the phone and WhatsApp Web (checked 20 Oct 2026), so the button opens a chat on mobile and on desktop.
Does it collect visitor data?
No. The script only builds a WhatsApp link when the visitor clicks and sends nothing to us. The one link to us is the optional “Powered by WABB” line in the popup, which you can switch off in the generator. Chats start in your WhatsApp, so contacts are not saved to a CRM automatically.
Why doesn’t the button appear on my site?
Check that the code is pasted on the page and not inside a text field. If your site uses a strict Content-Security-Policy, it can block inline scripts and styles, so ask your developer to allow them. Also check that no other script already placed this button, since the code only runs once per page.
How is this different from the WABB chat widget?
This free generator simply opens a WhatsApp chat. The WABB chat widget is set up in your WABB workspace, so chats from your site continue there, where you can automate replies with flows or an AI Agent and handle them in the shared inbox.
