Free WhatsApp link generator

Create a wa.me link that opens a WhatsApp chat with your number and, if you want, a message already typed in. Free, no sign-up — the link is built in your browser, and the tool does not send your number or message to our servers.

Pick the country and type the number without the country code or a leading zero, or paste a full number starting with +. Leave it empty to create a share link where people choose the contact.

How it works

How a WhatsApp link works

A click-to-chat link is a normal URL on wa.me. Everything after the number is optional.

Anatomy of a link

https://wa.me/15551234567?text=Hi%2C%20I%20have%20a%20question

  • The base

Always the same. It opens WhatsApp on any device.
  • The number

Full international format: country code and number, with no zeroes, brackets, dashes or + sign.
  • The message switch

Optional. Everything after it is the message in the text field of the chat, ready to send.
  • The message

URL-encoded text. The generator encodes spaces and symbols for you.

No number? Use https://wa.me/?text=<message> to create a share link. WhatsApp shows a list of contacts to send the message to.

Where to use it

Put it anywhere a “Contact us” button currently dumps people into a form.

  • Contact page
  • Site footer
  • Email signature
  • Thank-you and order-status pages

Where a click-to-chat link actually gets used

Same wa.me URL everywhere. Change only the pre-filled first line so you know what they tapped.

Website & email

  • Contact page. Swap the ticket form for a tap that opens WhatsApp with the question already typed — no fields, no “we’ll email you”.

  • Footer. One persistent entry on every URL. People who never looked for Contact still have a way in.

  • Email signature. Quotes, invoices and follow-ups carry a chat entry. Pre-fill “I saw your email about…” so the thread starts in context.

  • Thank-you and order pages. The purchase just happened. That’s when “where is it?” shows up — a click-to-chat link there beats a support form.

Social profiles

  • Instagram bio. You get one link. Use it, and pre-fill “Hi, I found you on Instagram” so those chats don’t mix with website traffic.

  • Instagram Story. The sticker is the tap target — a URL sitting only in the caption is ignored.

    1. Generate the link with a Story-specific first line.
    2. Add a link sticker (Business or Creator account).
    3. Park the sticker on the button in the frame, not in the caption.
  • LinkedIn Featured. B2B visitors already expect a conversation. Click-to-chat skips the wait for InMail.

  • YouTube description. On mobile, the first line is the clickable one. Put the wa.me URL there, not in paragraph three.

Print, packaging & QR

  • Packaging and inserts. A QR that opens chat with “I bought [product]” already filled covers how-to, warranty and reorder without a call centre.

  • Menus. Table tents skip the “do you have…?” shouted at staff. Pre-fill “table / reservation” so the kitchen sees intent.

  • Windows and flyers. Passers-by will not type a 15-digit number. A QR on the glass is the whole funnel.

  • Booth signage. Scan → chat with “I met you at [event]”. Follow-up is a thread, not a stack of cards.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I create a WhatsApp link?

Choose your country, enter your WhatsApp number, optionally add a pre-filled message, and copy the link. It has the form https://wa.me/<number>?text=<message>.

Is the WhatsApp link generator free?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up, and creates as many links as you like.

Does it work with WhatsApp Business?

Yes. A wa.me link opens a chat with any number that has an active WhatsApp account, whether it is a personal WhatsApp or a WhatsApp Business account.

Does the person need to save my number first?

No. According to the WhatsApp Help Center, click to chat lets someone start a chat without saving the number in their address book.

Why is my link not working?

The most common reasons are a + sign, zeros, spaces or dashes in the number, a missing country code, or a number without an active WhatsApp account. The generator removes the formatting for you; check the country and the number.

Do you store my number or message?

No. The link is generated in your browser, and the tool does not send what you type to our servers.

How can I tell where chats come from?

A wa.me link has no analytics of its own. Use a different pre-filled message for each place you share it, for example “Hi, I found you on Instagram”, and read that first message when the chat arrives. A WhatsApp automation tool like WABB can also route chats by that message.
